History

Indore, A city which emerged out in 16th-Century as a business hub between Deccan and Delhi. The city and its surroundings came under Hindu Maratha Empire on 18th May 1724 after Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I assumed the full control of Malwa. During the days of the British Raj, State of Indore was a 19 Gun Salute (21 locally) princely state (a rare high rank) ruled by the Maratha Holkar dynasty, until they acceded to the Union of India. Indore served as the capital of the Madhya Bharat from 1950 until 1956.

Indore is also a city of best educational institutions ranging from pre-primary through to post-graduate studies. In 2009 Indore became the first and the only city in India to have both an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
